SPECIALTY: HITTING/GAME RULES AND STRATEGIES

Jamie Lee was born and raised in the New York metropolitan area where he played high school and then independent league baseball while attending the State University of New York at Stony Brook (Class of 1980).  Academic interests in the game and its rules led Jamie to become a certified umpire, officiating collegiate and independent league baseball for nearly 10 years as he earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1986. Dr. Lee is currently a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is also the Robert Kyle Distinguished Mayo Investigator with more than 250 scientific publications. Dr. Lee is currently a hitting instructor and coach for the Junior Varsity Girl’s Fast-pitch Softball Program at Cactus Shadows High School (Cave Creek AZ).  Moreover, for the last 5 years he has also been on staff at the Inside Pitch Baseball Academy as a hitting/field instructor. The focal interest of Dr. Lee is the education of children both on and off the field with the belief that smart baseball players are good baseball players. This has led Dr. Lee to create several independent club baseball teams (10U – 16U) with missions of teaching children the game of baseball in preparation for high school and beyond. This work continues with the Hustle Baseball Academy and forms the underlying foundation of the Academy’s philosophy – “Play Hard … Study Harder”!
